Concrete is a very durable material, but it isn’t invincible. After a considerable amount of time or wear and tear, it can crack, creating a problem for you and your business. Thanks to a group of researchers at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, however, these issues may soon be a thing of the past.
The researchers created ConFlexPave, a flexible and stronger version of concrete made up of polymer microfiber which allows the material to bend when pressure is applied to it and improves overall skid resistance. This new material is able to do this because the microfibers distribute pressure evenly throughout the slab.
According to the inventors, ConFlexPave is tougher than metal, twice as strong as normal concrete, and will be able to cut the time spent on concrete projects almost in half. The improved construction time comes from the ability for workers to create slim, lightweight precast slabs from the material which allows for quicker installation. This, in turn, will then cut down the time spent on on-site work and significantly reduce inconveniences caused by road maintenance.
Now this discovery is still relatively new, so it will be a while before it is available to companies such as R.G. Smith Company to use in our concrete projects. Until then, our concrete services are sure to be what you need to give your business a great foundation. We offer concrete foundation services throughout the greater Ohio region, and we’ve poured thousands of feet of concrete that have stood up to the most extreme conditions. Whether you need a new foundation, excavation work, concrete demolition or anything else, we can help your business get the job done quickly and easily.
